Attention Southwest Frequent Flyers: New Elevated Offer Boosts Welcome Bonus

If you’re a frequent flyer on Southwest Airlines but don’t yet carry one of its credit cards, the latest elevated welcome offer on one of its business cards may be the incentive you need.

Bigger Welcome Bonus

The Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card*  gives new cardholders the opportunity to earn 120,000 Rapid Rewards bonus points after spending $10,000 on purchases in the first three months of account opening. It’s a big 40,000-point jump from the usual offer—and a bump in the required spending.

Previously, the card offered new cardholders 80,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months after opening.

The card offers an array of assorted perks, including a complimentary Preferred seat at booking and free bag check for up to eight additional passengers on the reservation.

Other perks include:

  • An extra legroom seat upgrade within 48 hours prior to departure, including up to eight passengers on the reservation
  • A boost of 10,000 Companion Pass qualifying points every year
  • Reimbursement for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus application fees
  • Boarding for card members and up to eight additional passengers on the same reservation with Group 5 for earlier access to overhead bins
  • Free first checked bag for up to eight additional passengers on the same reservation
  • Receive 25% back on all in-flight purchases
  • 9,000 additional points on your card anniversary

Bring a Friend

The new welcome offer also gets new cardholders closer to a Companion Pass, which allows flyers to book a ticket for another person to fly with them.

Southwest Companion Passes can be earned after 100 qualifying flights or can be purchased for 135,000 points (though it does not include taxes and fees from $5.60 one-way), so the 120,000 points bonus gets cardholders most of the way there. With the annual Companion Pass points boost and 9,000 card-anniversary boost, you can earn the companion pass in no time.

The Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card* has an annual fee of $299. If you fly with Southwest multiple times a year, however, it could be worthwhile to cash in on the offer before it ends.

Bottom Line

The Southwest® Rapid Rewards® Performance Business Credit Card*  is offering an elevated welcome offer of 120,000 points, up 40,000 points from its usual sign-up bonus. Upon earning the bonus, cardholders can easily earn the required number of points for a Southwest Companion pass.
